OLOKPA MADNESS

Oh yes! The police is at it again: olokpa madness. This morning I woke up to yet another mind boggling news about the death of a father of five whose life was sniffed out in a flash by the sheer madness of an olokpa in what they have sugar-coated as "accidental discharge".

The Lagos-based driver, Mr Fatai met his doom on Sunday, August 28; 2016 while plying his usual Okoko/CMS route. Reports say the culprit - a yet to be identified policeman - had fired series of gunshots into the air in a bid to disperse obstructive vehicles on the road, only for one of the bullets to steal life from the innocent father of five.

Well, I don't know if there's any better practical definition of madness than attacking unsuspecting menbers of the public and inflicting harm on them. How on earth, can a man in his right senses fire gunshots to clear the road for his task master? Madness! What puts more fire in my bones is the reason given by those pot-bellied olokpas whose sense of reason seems to have been blocked by the fifty nairas they collect from struggling Nigerians. Accidental discharge they call it. What a beautiful way to kill and go free.

The Nigerian Police Force, true to its uniform, never ceases to bring black upon black omens on the people they are paid to protect. You think of an olokpa and what comes to mind is a roaring lion who wanders about, seeking whom to devour. Now, one of these men on black has taken yet another innocent life and the almighty police ogas are yet to identify the traitor and still liter fully air conditioned offices with tank-like bellies that have refused to hide their corruption. Don't be surprised that the unfortunate murderer is in some other town, blowing his senses away in those loud sirens.

Like Nathaniel in the Bible asked, so also I wonder. Can any good thing come out of the Nigerian police? We wait to see.
