Leader and founder of the Deeper Life Bible Church has barred his members from clapping their hands after his Ministrations. Speaking during one of his sermons at the annual
December Retreat 2015, the Lagos-based pastor admonished the church on the need to be sober and shun unnecessary frivolities which he said includes clapping of hands and jeering before, during and after Ministrations.
What this means is that if you happen to bump into any Deeper Life church, you aren't supposed to clap before, after or during the pastor's ministration, add that to choir ministrations as well. Boring isn't it? Perhaps, annoying too.
Well, is it strange? Certainly not. Pastor W. F Kumuyi has always been a man with stiff rules and sometimes, humanly strange decisions. Notable among some of such decisions include, barring his members from watching Television as well as abhorring the use of drums and guitar.
I may interest you to know that Pastor W.F Kumuyi's mentor is John Westley, founder of the Methodist Church. Westley was a man also reputed for his strict leadership style in his days. Most popular among his usually queer decisions was barring his members from drinking tea because he thought it was a sexual stimulant. Ridiculous!
With all said, the key focus in all of these is moderation. Christians and leaders must be able to draw an accurate-enough line between Christian liberty and worldliness.
